The First Step to Reimagining These Lands

Pedestrian-centered and highly walkable, the Hangar District is the first revitalized site of the Downsview Airport Lands. With a mix of housing options, innovation-focused jobs, and unique amenities like a local shuttle service and acres of new public spaces, the Hangar District will place community and sustainability at its core.

The Hangar District celebrates the site’s aviation and manufacturing history through a unique mix of ‘old and new’ by repurposing the existing hangar buildings with innovative greenscaping that will preserve natural resources and provide direct access to existing transit stations.

The first phase of the Hangar District will provide 2,850 new homes, with over 40% having at least two bedrooms, to meet the need of living close to places of work, learning and play.

City and nature will come together through multiple acres of new, connected parks and open spaces. The former taxiway will be transformed to create a bustling, lively, inviting new destination, while a cycling and pedestrian bridge will connect the Hangar District to Downsview Park, with the Downsview Park Bridge becoming a signature destination in and of itself.
